Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Our clinical programs utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as the primary therapeutic intervention model, with an additional emphasis on problem solving. The central idea of CBT is that our emotions and behaviors are strongly influenced by how we think. Therefore, changing our thinking by developing new thinking skills can be a very powerful way to change our emotions and behaviors.
The key features of CBT include the following:
  • CBT is a research-based model with a proven effectiveness in treating a wide variety of psychiatric disorders, particularly those most often seen at Parc Place (e.g. ADHD, Bi-Polar Disorder, PTSD, Depression, etc.)
  • CBT is relational and collaborative – members of the treatment team and direct care staff work with the patients to facilitate change.
  • CBT targets thinking errors with the goal to correct maladaptive thoughts and learn new coping methods and problem solving skills.
  • CBT encourages residents to take responsibility for behavioral change (internal focus on control)
